Biotech works with educators at all levels to help develop science curricula
that introduce students to the excitement of recent developments in science throughout
their schooling. A variety of programs for teachers and students are coordinated through
various agencies including the New Jersey Commission on Science and Technology, other
government programs, professional organizations, corporations, and schools. Through these
programs, Biotech is helping to bring enthusiasm for science to the classroom at all
levels.
The center also works with Cook College's Office of Continuing Professional Education,
which provides short course training for industry personnel. The center has been
instrumental in the development of a series of bioremediation courses.
Outreach to the community at large is another important facet of the
Center's work. Faculty have testified in Washington, spoken on local
and national radio and TV programs, and were featured in New Jersey
newspapers. They share their expertise and views on issues relating to
genetically modified crops and foods and their impact on the lives of
consumers, assessing both the risks and the benefits of the new
technologies.
